The SoulPhone Project

Gary E. Schwartz PhD directs the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health (previously at the University of Arizona). A former Harvard and Yale professor, Dr. Schwartz retired from his professorship in Psychology, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Surgery at the University of Arizona in 2024.  He has presented more than 450 scientific papers, co-edited 11 academic books, and written 14 books for the general public.  To learn more, visit LACH.org.

As of 2022, he and a team of electrical engineers, software programmers, evidential mediums, and postmaterial collaborators have worked for 15 years to create ‘spirit’ communication technology.  (Postmaterial is a term used to describe people whose earthly form has died.  ‘Postmaterial persons’ no longer live in the material or earthly world that can be sensed by most humans.)

The SoulSwitch provides clear evidence that some ‘deceased’ persons can use the equipment to demonstrate their presence.  The accuracy of this statement has been tested with (1.) the Operator Skills Test, (2.) the Personal Identification test, and (3.) the Cognitive Understanding test, and shows 80 – 90% replicability.  The combination of these tests provides strong evidence of the reality of rudimentary interdimensional communication.

Note: In 2019 and 2020, a series of scientific studies at the University of Arizona definitively demonstrated that life continues after physical death.  This is not an official announcement.  That will occur in late 2025 after publication of his seminal scientific paper and public demonstrations are ready.

Does All This Sound Impossible To You?

I was born in 1953.  At the age of ten, our phone number had only five digits.  My grandparents had a “party line” but it wasn’t as much fun as the term suggests.  If someone else was using the phone, you had to wait until they were done to make your call.

My dad worked for the telephone company for 35 years, so I was especially aware of how phone technology progressed.  Back then, “switchboard operators” had to manually connect the two parties who wanted to speak.

When you were away from home, the only way to make calls was with a phone booth. Local calls only cost 10 cents whereas long distance calls required more change.  You had to put in more money when your time was almost over if you wanted to keep talking.

Dick Tracy, a cartoon-character detective, had a futuristic wrist watch that worked like a phone and TV.  I thought it was a great idea that would never happen because it seemed so impossible.  After all, telephones were big bulky things that required a wired connection.  And TVs were really huge and needed electricity and an antenna.

That was 1963.  I would have considered you crazy if you told me about a phone that could be transported in a mere thirty years.  But IBM came up with a prototype mobile phone in 1992.

SmartPhones are old news now.  We take it for granted that a hand-sized, lightweight, and wireless device can make phone calls all over the world and allow us to see each other while talking.  In addition, it takes wonderful photos, serves as a GPS, allows texting, stores photos, and much more.

The transition from party lines and switchboard operators to the SmartPhone in just 30 years was amazing.  The development of the SoulPhone to allow communication with postmaterial persons may seem even more mind boggling . . . but it’s happening.

SoulPhone® Project Overview

The SoulPhone™ refers to a combination of innovative and integrative technologies that are being developed by Dr. Schwartz and a team of colleagues affiliated with the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health at the University of Arizona. This comprehensive research program has been funded by a visionary consortium of donors.

The purpose of the program is to develop accurate technologies for communicating with postmaterial persons (PMPs). Some of them want to continue relationships and help us advance personal and planetary peace and wellness.

If such research sounds crazy or impossible to you, it may help to know that at least four esteemed 20th century scientists attempted to develop a similar technology.  Alexander Graham Bell, early inventor of the telephone, worked to create a ‘Telephone to the Dead.’  Guglielmo Marconi, who invented the radio, attempted to develop a ‘Radio to the Dead’.

In the book Edison vs Tesla: The Battle Over Their Last Invention, Martin and Birnes state: “Edison’s little-known near-death experience formed his theory that animate life forms don’t die, but rather change the nature of their composition.  It is this foundational belief that drove him to proceed with the spirit phone.  Tesla monitored Edison’s paranormal work, with both men racing to create a device that picked up the frequencies of discarnate spirits …”

Certain hypothesized collaborating postmaterial persons (HCPs) have assisted the research by relaying crucial information through evidential mediums. For more information about their involvement, see Appendix G: Hypothesized Collaborators’ Involvement with the SoulPhone™.

The following tests were used during seven experiments using a Plasma Globe System to detect binary signals from postmaterial participants:

  1. Operator skills tests to evaluate the ability of postmaterial persons to correctly perform requested tasks
  2. Cognitive understanding tests to evaluate recall of earthly words and concepts.  For example, postmaterial participants uniformly showed           comprehension of the difference between mechanical vehicles and animals.
  3. Personal Identification tests to examine recall of details when the postmaterial participants lived on earth.  Examples included asking for correct Yes / No     responses to   questions such as: Was your mother’s name ___?  Were you born in ___?  Did you write a book entitled ___?

Their mastery of the three tests has been repeatedly demonstrated in proof-of-concept studies. Collectively, these experiments show that it is feasible to create practical devices for postmaterial communication.  The challenge has been to amplify their signals while minimizing background noise detected by ultra-sensitive equipment.  In 2021, Dr. Schwartz and his team are working to develop a proof-of-practice device to be used for client services and, eventually, usable devices and / or apps.

Six experiments with over 1,500 sessions yielded over 1 trillion bits of data from postmaterial participants.  Because of the extraordinary nature of these claims, equally extraordinary evidence was required.  In autumn 2025, a seminal paper on all studies to date will be submitted to scientific journal.

Strategic planners on the SoulPhone Project envision four possible postmaterial communication technologies:

SoulSwitch™
This first device is a binary switch designed to allow PMPs to communicate with material persons by signaling ‘Yes / No’ answers. Experimenters can now demonstrate with whom they are in contact and show rudimentary binary communication.  Highly accurate and near-real time ‘Yes / No’ answers should allow a greater quality and quantity of input from PMPs to assist research and development (R & D) of the next devices.

SoulKeyboard™
This device is expected to allow texting with PMPs.  Once a SoulSwitch is available, design and development of the SoulKeyboard prototype can begin.  This phase of R & D will use a combination of switches that function similarly to keys on a traditional keyboard. When a switch is activated by a PMP, it is equivalent to a key being pressed by a material person operator.  The SoulKeyboard should not require any new discoveries or inventions.

SoulVoice™
This device is envisioned to allow material persons to hear PMPs.  The initial goal for this device will be to hear discernible ‘Yes / No’ spoken responses to questions.  Subsequent work on this device should improve voice fidelity so that continuous speech can ultimately be detected and understood.

SoulVideo™
This stage of the SoulPhone will hopefully enable material persons to see visual images of PMPs.  The goal is to detect and display moving images of PMPs on a TV or computer screen.  The preliminary objective is to display an image, even if it is suboptimal or blurry.  Further phases will refine the equipment and processing of the video signal to enhance the images.  It is anticipated that SoulVideo technologies can eventually be developed into a 3-D holographic version.

Several exciting advances with hardware and software development have occurred in 2021.  Public demonstrations of the SoulSwitch will be given as soon as funding and security issues allow.  We have created an infrastructure to help people ‘wrap their heads around’ these mind-boggling but scientifically based findings.  These include:

SoulPhone technology should enable webinars with esteemed “deceased” luminaries.  They are not suffering from human brain-induced limited sense perceptions as humans do and enjoy a more unobstructed view of life.  In addition, they have been working on ways to improve what they were doing while living on earth.  As Nikola Tesla purportedly said through one of the evidential research mediums: ‘If you think what I was inventing while on earth was amazing, wait until you see what I’ve been working on here!’
