Dream-Time Visiting, Learning, and Healing
In this article, I’ll discuss five categories of dreams that I’m aware of. Before I do that, however, I’ll define a term, explain a concept, and provide evidence that people can be conscious during dreams.
The term ‘postmaterial person’ (PMP) refers to those who used to live on earth and are now alive and well in the next phase of life. (Using PMP is more concise and clear than saying all that.) The word ‘person’ in that term conveys that PMPs aren’t just gauzy wisps of energy. They retain 99.9% of who and what they are – not were. Except for their no-longer-needed earth-suits, PMPs are everything they were before and more.
The concept is that your brain may create a strange story in an attempt to make sense of meaningful dreams. While falling asleep, I periodically sense unknown people saying words that I can’t understand while strange events transpire. They might be postmaterial (PMP) loved ones or clients I work with. They might be angels, guides, and/or master teachers trying to communicate with me. Finally, they might be the result of random brain activity as I fall asleep. Whatever the case, in a hypnogogic state (between waking and sleeping), the brain might try to make sense of it by spinning a strange story.
Evidence that people can be conscious during dreams was discovered by Dr. Stephen LaBerge’s research at Stanford University. Clinical science has definitively proven that mind / awareness can be alert and communicative while the physical body sleeps. In 2021, an international research team extended LaBerge’s research and showed that consciousness can be intact during dreams. This evidence ‘opens the door’ to considering categories #2 – 5 about dreams. Since your real self / consciousness can be aware of dreams, it’s wise to say a prayer and/or set an intention before going to sleep. I ask my spiritual support team (angels, guides, master teachers, and The Light) to guide and assist me during dream time just as they do during waking hours.
I’ve heard and analyzed many dreams with counseling clients over the last 45 years. Personally, I dream frequently and am fascinated by them. I feel best when I sleep nine or more hours at night so there’s an opportunity to dream a lot. However, over the years I’ve been told independently by different psychics and energy readers that the real me – my consciousness / energy – doesn’t really sleep that much. Rather, my body sleeps while my higher self / soul heals, travels, visits, learns, and helps others in different time-space dimensions.
Five categories of dreams include . . .
1. ‘Just a dream’ that seems nonsensical
This is my label for dreams that appear to be random and without meaning. Seeing a purple hippo flying in the air while singing to you may be just a random dream. When my dreams seem to fall into this category, I don’t spend extra time evaluating them. I consider them to be gyrations of an overactive during sleep and before falling asleep. However, I use the modifiers ‘seems’ and ‘appear’ since apparently random dreams could be your subconscious trying to send a message. Pay attention to this category if the dream is repetitive or seems especially important because it was unusally vivid or emotional.
2. Healing and Releasing Dreams
Lower-energy emotions from the past – sadness, anger, regret, guilt, etc. – can get stuck in your brain and muscles.Fortunately, those ‘negative thoughts’ can be released during dreams as your brain processes and releases them. Three years after retiring as the director and senior doctor in a busy holistic health clinic, I still have weekly dreams that I’m behind schedule, working with a really difficult patient, or dealing with problems with staff members.
As soon as I awaken – whether during the night or in the morning – I remind myself that all those stresses are over. I mentally release the anxiety and focus on gratitude for the opportunity to help so many people. I ask for help to offload or erase any information I don’t need now so I can do new work. You can use the same formula when it’s clear that you are still holding on to something from the past. (See article #108 to learn more about Higher Energy Emotions and Ways of Being)
3. Dreams of Warning and Preparation
This category is termed precognitive dreams that provide knowledge of something that might occur. Clients have told me about dreams of being in a car wreck and, as a result, they drove more defensively. When another driver swerved into their lane, my clients were forewarned to be alert and reacted more quickly. Parents of children who pass on sometimes have dreams in the days or weeks before they change worlds. As a result, the parents feel at least somewhat prepared for the shock and tragedy. More aware parents see these dreams as a blessing because they were a little more mentally prepared and no so devastated.
Just because you have dreams like this doesn’t mean something will absolutely happen so don’t become anxious about it. Rather, be more alert and prepared for that possibility. (There apparently are ‘soul-planned times’ when people pass on so don’t think it’s up to you to prevent that. To learn more, see article #140 Is There ‘A Time’ to Pass On?)
4. Visits with Loved Ones Who Pass On
Many validated dream visits with postmaterial persons or PMPs (again, the so-called ‘departed’) have been reported.During an ‘Ask the Soul Doctor’ class for HelpingParentsHeal.org, Mara and John told about their daughter Sabrina who passed on in an auto accident soon after starting college. She loved being around water while boating, swimming, jet skiing, and helping clean up beaches and waterways.
After the class, I didn’t tell my fiance Andy anything about it; we watched two episodes of Ghosts season 3 and went to sleep. She is an RN, Doctor of Acupuncture, and evidential medium. The next morning, Andy told me about a vivid dream involving ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’. She awakened at 1:30am and felt that she was supposed to turn on the bedside light. She saw that water had spilled all over the nightstand even though the mug was only half way full and wasn’t knocked over. Andy felt that she had been contacted by a child of parents from my class the previous evening, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, she asked if water and that TV show had anything to do with any of the kids discussed in the session. I immediately thought of Sabrina since her parents had stressed her love of water. This information strengthens the inference that Sabrina really visited so I could tell her parents and share this story.
Two years after my Dad passed on, I dreamt I was a young boy at home with my brother and sister. We found a box of old records and, to our surprise, saw several with Dad on the cover. He wore an expensive suit and held a microphone in his hand with the caption: ‘Bill Pitstick Sings His Greatest Hits’. In my dream, my siblings and I were amazed since we never knew he was a famous singer. Just then, Dad came into the room. We asked him about it and he humbly said, ‘Oh, yes, that was many years ago.’ When prompted to sing a song, he belted out ‘On a Clear Day.’
Upon awakening, I remembered the vivid dream and realized I really didn’t know the words to that song. (I have severe hearing loss and could only understand the refrain ‘On a Clear Day.’) I thought that perhaps the words conveyed a message from Dad in his new abode and was pleasantly surprised when I looked up the lyrics . . .
“On a clear day, rise and look around you, and you’ll see who you are. On a clear day, how it will astound you that the glow of your being outshines every star. You’ll feel part of every mountain, sea, and shore. You can hear from far and near a world you’ve never, never heard before. And on a clear day, on that clear day, you can see forever, and ever, and ever more.” To learn more about topics mentioned in this category, see article #6 Evidential Mediums and #28 Afterlife Contacts.
5. Teachings from your Spiritual Support Team
An early spiritual teacher of mine, Ram Dass AKA Richard Alpert PhD, said ‘You know how you awaken from a dream that seemed so real?Well, wait until you awaken from this one.’
Most people perceive themselves during this earthly experience as being solid, and separate from others and The Source. Those are optical delusions created by the brain that thinks it knows everything but actually detects much less than 1% of reality. Much of the brain’s function is to filter sensory input, that is, allow people to focus on what is needed for survival. Having a ‘default mode network’ was adaptive during Neanderthal and other eras but that filtering causes needless fears. When you are asleep, the brain relaxes its gatekeeper role so you can perceive the other 99.999% of what actually exists.
One of the many benefits of this is that you can sense your spiritual support team better. This term describes angels, guides, master teachers, and other highly evolved beings / energies. It also describes The Light / Source Energy / G.O.D. Here’s a personal experience that deepened my knowing that we each are always loved, guided, and assisted by higher energy beings. On 11/11/23, I did a shamanic journey using a favorite audio program to do that. (The Shaman’s Heart with Hemi-Sync by Byron Metcalf and Steve Roach) I set an intention to deeply communicate with my spiritual support team: angels, guides, master teachers, soul mates, higher self, and – always and everywhere – The Light. In a deep hypnogogic state, that state between sleep and wakefulness, I sensed my team hovering around me.
Someone psychically / energetically cut out pieces of my left temporal (skull) bone. The pieces were arranged in front of me so I could read what they spelled: Act As a Team! This simple but very profound message brought tears to my eyes and other signs of chakra activation. It was a deeper level of remembering that I always have my beloved team around me. They are beyond glad to assist in every major and minor need; given that, why wouldn’t I use their very real presence in every moment? I wrote the phrase ‘Act as a Team’ on paper where I see it every day.
I sometimes dream that I am being taught important lessons and receiving downloads. Often, I will awaken with ideas for an article or action steps. If I awaken at night, it’s usually around 3am; I ask my team if there are any messages or lessons for me and listen. I keep a notepad and pen on my bedside stand to take notes in middle of night and/or upon awakening. If the former, I ask for assistance in going back to sleep quickly. Then I just relax, breathe slowly, and act like I’m in a coma; almost always, I’ll find myself drifting off to sleep.
I hope this article helps you better understand and use your dreams to optimally heal, live, and help others and our world.
