Note: If you already know the following information scroll down to the article title in maroon below the seven asterisks.  However, I strongly recommend reading this introduction until you really ‘own’ it.  In addition, post The Great News where you’ll see it every day.

Over the last 15 years, and especially during 2019 – 2024, data from a series of experiments at the University of Arizona have definitively demonstrated scientifically that life continues after physical death.  This research was conducted by Gary E. Schwartz PhD, former professor at Harvard and Yale, and pioneer in the fields of behavioral medicine and energy healing.

Dr. Schwartz is assisted in this work by a team of electrical engineers, software developers, research assistants, evidential mediums, and postmaterial luminaries at the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health.  (To learn more about the SoulPhone Project and lab, visit LACH.Arizona.edu.  To learn about postmaterial luminaries, see article #31 at SoulProof.com)

The Demo SoulSwitch is a binary (Yes / No) SoulSwitch device that postmaterial persons (the so-called ‘deceased’) can use to answer questions, verify their identity, and begin providing information to help many people and our planet.  This device should be ready for beta testing by the summer of 2024.  After sessions with project volunteers and larger donors, we will share data that scientifically demonstrates life continues after bodily death.  However, this ‘reveal’ will initially occur as an ‘incremental trickle’ versus a ‘sudden splash’.   Over time and under optimal conditions, we will gradually amplify how widely this news is shared.

Likewise, demonstrations of this technology will occur in a stepwise fashion.  We anticipate, but cannot guarantee, that full announcements and demonstrations will occur by spring 2025.  These decisions were made in April 2024 after many strategic planning discussions with core project team members.  The many factors involved are much more complex than you might imagine.

See articles #1, 60, and 115 for an overview of the scientific, clinical, and experiential evidence that indicates – with 99.9% certainty – that consciousness survives bodily death.  This collective evidence also shows – with very high degrees of certainty – The Great News that you and everyone else:

  1. continue to live after your earthly body dies.
  2. can interact with ‘departed’ loved ones now and after you pass on.
  3. are integral, infinite, eternal, and beloved parts of Source Energy now and always.
  4. receive guidance and support from angels, guides, master teachers, etc.
  5. are sacredly interconnected with all people, animals, and nature.
  6. have special purposes for having this earthly experience now.
  7. may manifest in other simultaneous time / space realities now and after bodily death.
  8. have everything you need to enjoy an optimal earthly experience – no matter what your past or current circumstances.
  9. can find meaning, as well as opportunities for growth and service, amidst your toughest changes and challenges.
  10. co-create how heavenly your life feels – whether living on earth or elsewhere – by your predominant thoughts, words and actions.
  11. can likely use SoulPhone technology in the future to communicate with postmaterial loved ones and access wisdom from luminaries who can help us heal our world.

Statements #1, 2, and 11 are based on definitive scientific research.  The other statements are based on: (a) clinical research: near-death experiences, past life memories and regressions, perinatal experiences, life between lives sessions, shared crossings, terminal lucidity cases, and deathbed visions; and (b) evidencefrom firsthand experiences: after-death communications, out-of-body experiences, spiritually transformative experiences, electronic voice projection / instrumental transcommunication, and other ways of knowing.

This is, obviously, a new and exciting era for humanity.  When understood and internalized – even just a bit – The Great News can help you make the shift:

  • FROM thinking, believing, and acting as if your time on earth is unfair, meaningless, cruel, and ends with cessation of consciousness or the possibility of endless suffering.
  • TO thinking, believing, and acting as if this earthly experience is a totally meaningful, safe, and magnificent adventure amidst forever.

Conscious language can help you adopt a greater reality perspective and live based on the second bulleted worldview.  And that, in turn, can help you create the greatest life YOU have envisioned, fulfill your purposes for being on earth, serve others, and enjoy a magnificent journey.  In the pursuit of using more conscious / accurate terms, l:

  1. Will use the term ‘YOU’ to describe the totality of your energy / being. Your real self may manifest in different spacetime ways simultaneously since only approximately 50% of your consciousness is needed to have an earthly experience. The term ‘YOU’ recognizes both of these possibilities.
  2. Won’t use the terms ‘die, departed, deceased, or dead’ without single quotation marks since those have strongly entrenched and erroneous meanings indicating an end of life.
  3. Will use the terms ‘bodily death’ and ‘death of the earthly form’ to remind you that only the earth-suit dies. The rest – all the intelligence, love, personality, memories, preferences, sense of humor, and much more – continues living in other parts of the field of all possibilities.
  4. Will use the terms changed worlds, passed on, transitioned and others that aptly describe a continuation of consciousness after bodily death.
  5. Will primarily refer to those who have passed on as postmaterial persons. That term recognizes the points in #3. I also will use soul, consciousness, essence, and awareness.
  6. Will primarily refer to ‘physical humans living on earth’ as material persons. Why? Because those terms within single quotation marks may apply to postmaterial persons.  That is, they can have physicality, visit earth, and are still human in meaningful ways.
  7. Will use the terms lower versus higher energies, emotions, and ways of being. These descriptors are not critical, judgmental, or subjective; rather, they are based on objective measures by, for example, David Hawkins PhD, MD author of Power Versus Force. He and other researchers found that higher-energy emotions of peace, joy, and love calibrate at 600, 540, and 500 respectively.  Conversely, lower-energy emotions of anger, fear, and guilt calibrate at 150, 100, and 30.  To be clear, energy / consciousness is who and what you really are, not just how you are feeling.  Your predominant energies create the quality of your life and the nature of your earthly or other time-space experience.
  8. Will use single quotations marks with words such as ‘lose and fail’.  The Great News and collective afterlife evidence can expand your worldview about what seem to be losses and failures.  We can’t accurately judge the big picture of life – what is lost or how we failed – with our limited human senses.

Note: To recognize and respect different genders and sexual identifications, I will alternate using ‘he’ or ‘she’ and related pronouns.  Depending on a person’s orientation, one, both, or neither of those may apply.

The free articles and radio shows mentioned are available at SoulProof.com.  To learn more about the collective afterlife evidence and The Great News, read Soul Proof, The Afterlife Evidence, Greater Reality Living (co-authored with Dr. Schwartz) and The Big Picture of Life (for ages 10 – 16 written with Schwartz and Katta Mapes MA, MEd).  To experience expanded states of consciousness to optimally heal and transform your life, use audio sessions under Shop at SoulProof.com.

Is Everything Instantly Perfect After Dying?

This is one of the most common questions I have been asked over time.  Grieving persons naturally want to know if their ‘departed’ loved one is enjoying paradise.  This is especially true for parents who want to know if their children really are having a wonderful afterlife.  Some of the most heart-rending questions I’ve received were from parents in torment because their autistic or mentally-challenged children weren’t ‘saved’ and may not make it to heaven.

Some people are worried about the afterlife fate of loved ones who were severe alcoholics and/or drug addicts – especially if this led to suicide.  Others wonder if their dear ones who suffered with profound mental symptoms instantly feel happy and whole.  How about atheists who didn’t believe in a Creator, or nihilists who didn’t believe in an afterlife?

Some justifiably wonder whether horribly abusive family members could really automatically enjoy a heavenly afterlife.  What about people who were murderers or otherwise horribly hurt others?  You can see why the question ‘Is Everything Instantly Perfect After Dying?’ arises.

I’ll share my short answers to these concerns; the evidence behind my best current understandings is listed below.

  1. For parents who want to know if their little children are having a wonderful afterlife.
The good news is that children who passed on at a young age likely are a subset of people who do instantly experience perfection. They didn’t have a chance to pile up new ‘bad karma’ and likely didn’t change worlds via suicide or after impairing their brains via drugs and alcohol.  (One exception might be if, before appearing as little children on earth, they had incurred karmic debts in previous time-space experiences.  That is too big of a topic to address in this article.)
  2. For all grieving persons who worry about their loved ones who passed on.
The factors discussed above apply.  Keep in mind that an eventual peaceful state of being is there for the asking and living out.  However, that may not be automatic depending on their state of mind when they passed on.  As such, enjoying a wonderful life is more a question of when versus if.
  3. Outcomes for children who were autistic, mentally-challenged, weren’t baptized, and otherwise perhaps incapable of making decisions to be saved.
You may, like me, be able to feel the fear and sadness behind such questions.  Erroneous and archaic teachings by fear-focused and controlling churches engender such senseless questions.  If you have been affected by such teachings – that misunderstand and blaspheme Creator – you may fear that your children weren’t able to make key decisions that impact their afterlife for eternity.  Fundamentalist Christians, for example, may worry that their children ‘didn’t make a decision for Christ.’  What loving and wise God would even think of such a scenario, let alone make it part of how life is set up?There is nothing we need to be ‘saved’ from except our ignorance of who we are, why we’re here, and Who walks beside us always.  We each are integral, eternal, and beloved parts of All That Is so who needs saved and why?  That fearful approach has raised a lot of money for huckster preachers who often take advantage of their follower’s trust.  Can’t we see past their ludicrous showmanship by now?  Discussing all this could fill a book; to learn more, start with articles #13 What Is G.O.D. Really Like?, #15 The Nature of Humans, and #100Enlightenment.
  4. What about the afterlife fate of loved ones who were severe alcoholics and/or drug addicts – especially if this led to suicide?
As discussed, these obviously aren’t optimal paths, but I understand how and why people end up that way. Surely Source Energy, angels, and other highly evolved beings do as well.  Some of them are more sensitive and evolved souls / people who tried to numb themselves from the cruelties and challenges of this world.  Perhaps they will learn that it’s more meaningful and fun to do what they can to make things better. After changing worlds, such persons may need extra rest and rehabilitation to recharge their energetic / spiritual bodies.  They may need loving and gentle counsel and assistance before feeling ready to rejoin the general population for learning and growing.  That may not feel like instant perfection, but it can gradually move in that direction.  Over time, they may be ready to visit a difficult place like earth and try for a better outcome.
  5. Those who suffered with profound mental symptoms such as depression.
Mental symptoms are often due to brain imbalances caused by chemicals, heavy metals, insufficient key nutrients, drug side-effects, and other factors. After the body dies, their life force is no longer hampered by those imbalances.  However, accompanying beliefs and energies strongly identifying themselves with being a mentally imbalanced person must also be released.  Loving and skills assistants will help them do that when they are ready to let go of the past and embrace the new moment.  (That choice is always available to all of us on earth as well.)  To learn more, see article #26 Holistic Solutions for ‘Mental’ Symptoms.
  6. Atheists who didn’t believe in a Creator and nihilists who didn’t believe in an afterlife?
Given the ignorant teachings of some religious denominations – especially the more fear-based and vociferous ones – I totally understand why many people want nothing to do with that kind of God.  After rejecting the ‘big guy in the sky’ model of Creator, they may justifiably do the same with the ridiculous ‘golden streets or fiery hells forever’ model.  In my experience, many atheists / agnostics and nihilists justifiably reject ludicrous notions but don’t know about contemporary information that is more evidence-based and sensible.  My overall view of such persons is that they will very pleasantly surprised when they enter the afterlife.  Their lack of belief and faith will not be punished.  Rather, they can shake off their misinformed beliefs and celebrate the actual way life works.  (And, of course, we on earth can do the same.)
  7. Horribly abusive persons, murderers, and others committing heinous acts.
In the future, I hope that health care technology identifies such persons early and treats whatever obvious imbalances exist.  We treat such persons as criminals but they are actually very ill.  I know that laws must punish and try to prevent mistreatment of others but how is that approach alone working?  During the 1970s when I was in theology school, mental health treatment ‘decentralized’ so that seriously imbalanced persons were on the street.  The models behind this decision predicted that their out-patient care of medications and counseling would sufficiently control their behaviors.

Society – including you and I – can do better than that.  The Ground of All Being and higher energy assistants know this and will provided needed care for these humans whose lives went so wrong.  Such persons won’t be punished externally since their life reviews and self-punishment will feel like hell until they realize their errors, repent, and forgive themselves.  (The word ‘repent’ involves truly being sorry, making amends as much as possible, and doing better in the future.)For those who think that everything in the afterlife is instantly perfect, could such persons really feel heavenly when they realize what they have done to others and themselves?

In late 2023, we have some good ‘snapshots’ of what the afterlife is like.  This input is based on:

  1. Clinical Data
This includes input about the afterlife that has been studied and verified by university professors, physicians, psychologists, and others in hospitals or professional settings.  Data relevant to this article primarily comes from Near Death Experiences, Evidential Medium readings, and Life Between Lives sessions.  (To learn more about each topic, click on the links or see articles #94, 6, and 98 at SoulProof.com)
  2. Scientific Research
To qualify for this category, the research must include strict controls, double-blinded conditions, multicenter research, and replicated results published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.  Data from twenty years of research on the SoulPhone Project at the University of Arizona’s Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health have provided solid information about postmaterial persons (the so-called ‘deceased’).  Different experiments show that they have or can have when desired – physicality, visual images, and the ability to vocalize. In addition, the research suggests that one’s personality carries over into the next realm.  That’s why several entertainers, who were very dynamic while on earth, have been the best test subjects for SoulPhone Project research.  This makes sense when comparing their high energy and demanding performances compared to sedentary scientists who dealt with complex mathematical formulas.  (see article #1 Scientific Evidence That Bodily Death Is NOT the End of Life)
  3. Experiential Input
This input is based on reports from firsthand experiences that people have via:
    a. After Death Communications that occur spontaneously while awake or dreaming
    b. Facilitated After Death Communications during a guided session involving hypnosis / deep relaxation. (article #28 and 9)Admittedly, there is a lower degree of certainty about data from #3 compared to #1 and #2.  Again, this category is based on what people perceive so there is generally a lack of validation.  There are exceptions, however, such as shared and evidential aspects ADCs.

  4. Religious / Spiritual Wisdom Teachings
I am most aware of these from my studies of the Judeo-Christian faith, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Native American wisdom.  Allegedly, founders of these religions had firsthand experiences that fueled the formation of concretized belief systems: Abraham communicated directly with God who, for example, told him to slain his son Isaac; Hindu rishis sensed OM, the sound and essence of The Supreme.  These millennia-old teachings, however, were based on firsthand experiences as with #3 above.  (Full disclosure: that Abraham story forced me, at a very young age, to not take The Bible or any religious scripture literally.  The Creator and Sustainer of the Cosmos I was sensing just wouldn’t operate that way.)

*       *       *       *       *       *       *

Here’s a good example of questions I receive about this topic . . .

Q: You’ve written about postmaterial persons feeling anger, regret, guilt, or other negative emotions toward themselves or those on earth.  But I’ve read a lot about the afterlife and have never heard anything except ‘the recently deceased’ enjoying complete love and bliss.  Please tell us more about your thoughts on this big question.

A: You’re right . . . this is a very big and important question.  Kudos for adopting the term ‘postmaterial person’ or PMP.  (To learn more about why I use that term, see article #31 What Is a ‘Postmaterial Person’?

Perhaps the most important take-away about this topic is this: life can be instantly perfect, or nearly so, anytime we are truly ready to ‘see the light.’  That is true whether a person enters the afterlife or is still having an earthly visit.  There are examples of people who quickly and thoroughly experienced nirvanic realization after different triggers.  Clinically, these shifts in awareness are termed Spiritually Transformative Experiencesas discussed in article #17.  This rapid and life-changing realization helps you KNOW that bodily death is not the end of life, you are an integral part of Source Energy, and are sacredly interconnected with all of life.  (To see seven other items about the nature of reality, see article #19 The Great News.)

Here’s my short answer to the question: the quality of your afterlife experience will be a direct reflection of your consciousness / spirit / degree of love at the time of passing.  Put another way, you create the quality / nature of the next phase of life by your cumulative thoughts, words, and actions.  Several old sayings reflect this common sense notion: ‘As you think, so shall you be.  You create your own reality.  You reap what you sow.’  This observation about ‘the way life works’ seems to be operative on earth and beyond.

That seems so simple, clear, and fair . . . right?  Then why all the debate and confusion?  First, bear in mind that there are many different denominations / sects within each major religion – over 10,000 in Christianity alone.  That wide spectrum of teachings about the afterlife creates confusion and discord.  In addition, more conservative denominations make it a sin to question anything that differs from that church’s doctrines.

Some of those teachings, such as the supposed existence of a fiery eternal hell for nonbelievers, arose in the Dark Ages and are ludicrous when considering how a loving Creator would operate.  And yet, somehow, people twist their minds around fearful and ignorant teachings and judge those who don’t agree.  All this results in many people not knowing about the clinical, scientific, and experiential data about the afterlife that exists.  (To learn more, see article #16 Evidence-Based Spiritual Teachings, #83 Am I a Christian?)

Another reason for different views about the afterlife is that reports by authors and mediums may be overly based on what they experienced or observed.  Their answers may be correct for a subset of people, but not for everyone.  As such, their descriptions of the afterlife shouldn’t be taken as a ‘one size fits all’ description of reality.

Part of the confusion is due to comparing apples with oranges.  We can’t look at reports during near-death experiences, that involve temporary / clinical death, and assume that is what continues to happen after actual / biological death.  For example, many people ‘see The Light’ and feel blissful during the initial stages of their NDE.  Later, however, they often have life reviews and directly experience – see, hear, feel, and know – how they treated others.

Put another way, exquisite opportunities exist right after transitioning from earth to sense that it’s all love and light, BUT you have to be an energetic match to sustain that perspective and live accordingly.  Becoming enlightened can occur whenever people are ready, but they aren’t forced to do so.  But how can we freely and wisely choose how we want to be until we’ve experienced polarities of love / hate, peace / anger, joy / hopelessness, etc.?  If we had no choice in how to live, we would be robot-souls and Creator would be a cosmic puppet master.

Again, life can be very joyful, peaceful, and loving when a person is ready for those sublime levels of existence.  Earthly visits allow us to experience firsthand what is good / godly and what is not.  Love, support, and acceptance by The Light and highly evolved beings (angels, guides,  etc.) is always there for the asking.  The question is when will we realize this great news, remember our true nature, accept those gifts, and live accordingly?

Some people believe or hope that the afterlife is automatically perfect in every way for those who pass on.  It’s a nice thought, especially when deeply grieving, but that view isn’t supported by clinical data, firsthand experiences), religious / spiritual teachings, and philosophical views / common sense.  This collective evidence indicates that a person’s state of consciousness just before bodily death carries over to the next phase of life.  Below is a brief overview of those . . .

Clinical Evidence

  1. Reports of hellish or less than wonderful NDEs suggest that alcoholics and drug addicts might chastise themselves for numbing out versus seeking help and creating better solutions. From their newly acquired celestial vantage point, they realize more keenly how much they hurt others.  Naturally, they may feel guilty and remorseful about that just as we do on earth when we wake up to the implications of our misdeeds.  (#94 Near Death Experiences)
  2. ‘Life reviews’ during NDEs in which people see and feel the good and bad ramifications of what they did while on earth. This feedback is not punitive but, rather, designed to teach and help the person transform for the better.  During the life review, recently arrived PMPs see and feel the good or bad they inflicted upon others and themselves.  (#45 The Life Review)
  3. Mediumistic reports of remorse and regret by postmaterial persons who hurt others before passing on. Multiple highly skilled mediums have independently told this to parents whose children left earth via suicide.  The PMPs weren’t in an eternal fiery hell, but they did feel sad and disappointed in themselves for: (a.) the extreme pain they caused others and (b.) their impulsive decision to destroy their earthly body instead of seeking better options.  (#6 Evidential Mediums)
  4. Life Between Lives sessions with over 50,000 of them with clients from 30 different countries – that clearly show a gradation of soul evolution and accompanying levels of peace, joy, and other higher energies / emotions.  These levels of advancement are not cause for excessive pride or a hierarchy. They are simply a recognition that some people have awakened and evolved more than others.  (#4 When a Loved One Passes On by Suicide and #98 Life Between Lives Sessions)

Experiential Evidence
Some people report firsthand experiences, while awake or dreaming, where they sensed recently ‘deceased’ loved ones.  Some of their perceptions were of their loved ones struggling with their words and actions while on earth.  Some PMPs have reported needing a ‘rest and rehabilitation’ time to heal and begin making amends for lower-energy behaviors.  If everything is immediately wonderful after bodily death, why would earthly loved ones – who would love to believe that is true – perceive visits that suggest otherwise?

Religious / Spiritual Teachings
A common tenet of these teachings is that the quality of your afterlife is shaped by your thoughts, words, and actions while on earth.  Very conservative / fundamentalist denominations may believe in a fiery eternal punishment, but that is not supported by the majority of religious teachings or the clinical data.  In my opinion, The Bible and other sacred texts make the most sense when considered for what they are: a collection of ancient parables, stories, and metaphors.  The authors of these writings sought to enlighten people of all ages and thus wisely and widely used this teaching method.

Philosophical Views / Common Sense: Major philosophical problems exist with the view that the afterlife is instantly perfect for everyone.  Taken to the extreme, all people would be better off dying right now if that were really the case.  In addition, how would a mass murderer be able to experience immediate joy given his prior heinous actions?   That system wouldn’t be just, and fairness surely is a hallmark of Creator and higher-energy realms.  Finally, what would be the sense of learning and growing if everyone automatically experiences paradise after bodily death?  That would be like giving all school students an A+ whether they studied or not.

From a more common sense view, several old adages teach that how we are on earth shapes, at least initially, our afterlife experience.  Those include: what goes around comes around, if you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler, you made your bed now sleep in it, etc.  After 40 years of studying afterlife topics, it seems to me that how things work after bodily death may be more like on earth than many people imagine.

Your degree of awareness and love create the quality of your life while you are on earth and thereafter.  Put another way, it’s so important to refine your thoughts, words, beliefs, and actions NOW since that shapes the quality of your life here and in the hereafter.  This realization highlights the wisdom of loving others AND yourself now and always.  See article #14 Heaven and Hell . . . What Are They Really? and #107 What Is the Afterlife Like? to understand more about this vital but little understood principle.

*       *       *       *       *       *       *

Various levels or degrees of understanding about the afterlife and related matters exist.  For example, a person can have a superficial knowing based upon occasional church attendance: ‘Yes, our religion says there is life after death.’  Compare this with a deeply internalized inner knowing.  As a Helping Parents Heal group leader recently said, ‘I know, with a capital K, that my son is alive and well.’  (To watch these amazing parents share their wisdom and inspiration, visit Affiliate Leader / Caring Listener Interviews that I conducted.)

Likewise, there are different levels of knowing that we each create the quality of our afterlife experiences.  A high degree of realization about this was beautifully stated by a reader of my Soul Proof newsletters: ‘I believe that we bring our state of consciousness with us when our body dies.  If we are ignorant or mean on earth, we don’t magically become wise or kind in the next realm.  As such, I want to develop myself and be around more advanced people / souls now.  That will benefit me now and in the afterlife.’

I love it when people really ‘get’ it.  I replied:  ‘I agree with you and applaud your plan.  While living on earth, it’s tough to remember the big picture of life and work on oneself.  But doing so is a huge part of creating the greatest life you have envisioned here and in the hereafter.  As the saying goes, wherever you go, there you are.  Another motivating thought is: ‘Do you want to carry your dirty earthly laundry into your next phase of life?’  Of course not.  Bravo for recognizing that refining yourself holistically and spending time with kindred spirits can improve your quality of life now and forevermore.  (Articles to help that journey include #68 The Big Picture of Life, #66 Optimal Relationships for More Evolved People, and #112 Creating the Greatest Life YOU Have Envisioned.)

I hope this article helps you understand more about the nature of reality and how to create a heavenly life now AND after bodily death.
